(Me and my group mates together with the panels during our final defense.)
Why rice hull ash? It is because most of the time rice hull ash does not have a proper disposal, yet it is used as a source of food for some animals such as pigs, but it is still not enough, because there's still a lot of rice hull left that can be considered as waste.
We also use this as the main material in our product because rice hull is attained without the use of mining, not the same with Graphite. Our idea in building new product using this solid waste has advantages. This can help in alleviating solid waste materials such as rice hulls, it also promote the use of pencil without using materials acquired from mining, which can be considered as environment friendly, and lastly, everyone can benefit in our product.
In making this product , you need to burn the rice hull in high heat and pound it using mortar and pestle until it turns into ash, then use all-purpose flour as the binding agent, then pour lukewarm water bit by bit, you will also need to put a bit amount of cooking oil in order to make it smooth and a little bit shiny and lastly bake it using an oven.
We know that our product is not perfect, so we can recommend to you that it is best if you follow the correct procedure and use the right apparatuses in making pencil core, and for the binding agent, it is better if you use Sodium Bentonite.
(Sorry for the appearance of our final product/ pencil core. *haha)
That's all for this year's update. Thank you for reading my blog.
